doubt

the meaning of the word will get everyone pointing to something as simple as ‘insecurity’ or perhaps ‘vulnerability’. but is it really so? to ‘doubt’ something implies much more than feeling insecure about an entity. searching and defining the word ‘doubt’ will bring about numerous definitions and potential meanings, all with somewhat of a negative connotation attached to them. but there is more to it than that.

to ‘doubt’ something, at least in my opinion, is a bit deeper. it signals an instinct to develop, to learn, to not take something for granted. would one call the doubter foolish, if he is to ‘doubt’ that a simple mathematical proposition has to equal to a certain value? perhaps, but in the end the lack of ‘doubt’ would have rendered us rather powerless against survival. examples are plenty, but ‘doubt’ can and does have a positive meaning. it is the doubter that will have the highest chance to remove his blinders, or pink glasses for some of you, and find a different solution to a problem. it is through ‘doubt’ that one will ask for reason, for justification. forcing the authoritarian figure stating a fact to, sometimes, dig deep inside them and be able to justify the facts stated prior.

advancement and development does not come from following, comes from doubting the very things you are taught, the very things you are feed on a daily basis. stop and ask for justification. understanding the reasons behind the statement will allow one to decide on its value. however, one must add, there is a requirement of justification for one’s ‘doubt’ into a statement. cannot simply ‘doubt’, there needs to be substance to support the requirement to question. thus, one should not be afraid to ‘doubt’ something, but one must be careful as to the reasons for it.
