a website has been made to inform the public about this, no burnaby prison, where one can get information about meetings, the current petition and what else can one do. on top of this, i must admit…i am very impressed with the steps the burnaby cityhall have taken…they have not only opposed the plan…but passed a vote to re-zone the area…such that no prison can be built on it. way to go to the cityhall, the mayor and wheover else was involved…this most likely won my vote in the next elections…
now onto the solicitor general…what in the world was he thinking? build a maximum security prison…in the middle of a city? usually these facilities should be build on the outskirts of cities as to minimize contact with society….why should society be punished twice? then again…no better way to decrease land value around the center of burnaby…but by building something like this.i guess as long as it’s not in his back-yard…he doesn’t care. let’s not forget than when the plans to build the new skytrain line to richmond were being debated…the ‘creme of vancouver’ opposed the line to go through some specific areas…even though that would have cut costs down since there were tracks there already…and it would have made it easier to move students and other workers to ubc (yes bias on my part). however…if the skytrain was a problem for them…how can the solicitor general imagine a prison won’t be a problem if built in the middle of a city?
i also guess it makes perfect sense…the prison guards can use public transit to get to work…so decrease on car emissions?
from 80 sites…the field in the middle of burnaby seemed more appropriate? what were the other fields?
what’s the point of a new prison if our current justice system lets most offenders walk? shouldn’t that be a more urgent matter…deal with what seems a broken justice system…rather than impose a maximum security prison in the middle of a metropolitan area?
this is the same goverment that’s looking to get re-elected in a couple of months…keep up the good work!!!

pretty impress abt what they want to do, in which in my opinion is the stupid, I just remember that when i was backhome actuall there was a prison in the middle of a major city of my country, in which the hidious thing is that they even made a bus stop station just in front of it, and actually u where able to see convicts waving to you, in which after couples of years, and after a hurricane came by and turn down the prison many prisioners escape, and the government realize that they had done a mistake of doing a prison just in the middle of the city, so they build one pretty far away from society, but they still face consequences of building in teh past a prison just in teh middle of one of the major cities, but hey where i come from is consider third world country, so i guess the government have an excuse to do this kind of stupidities.
Well is that what they call “justice system” , i wonder now what other stupid idea they will come out to implicate.

given some of the decisions of the current government one must really wonder what their real agenda is.
first off, placing such an institution nearby major public transit and major roads…is quite un-intuitive if say a prisoner does manage to escape
second, placing something like this there would destroy the image of the community
third, middle of burnaby is somewhat towards the center of the gvrd…i wonder if they would be so willing to place this institute nearby canada place, or say somewhere in stanley park…etc
on another note, it’s quite clearly public safety is not taken into consideration in these types of decisions

de afectat sigur va afecata siguranta publica…problema e ca e greu de zis exact cum. dar totusi in mijlocul metropolei sa adaugi o inchisoara de securitate maxima? foarte ilogica chestia…deci ipotetic daca unul scapa si fara sa atinga vreunul din punctele din societate e foarte usor sa dispara considerind ca sunt puncte mari de transfer linga (autobuze, skytrain imediat, si highway). inchisorile efective sunt izolate de public…
iar imagina zonei va scadea, deci si preturile la pamint pe linga. iar constructia propriuzisa va afecat putin zona…zgomot, etc.
de aia ma intreb cit de rele au fost celelalte locatii care au fost analizate…ca sa aleaga centrul unui oras…care are totusi multe dezavantaje…
