1. in regards to the check on the jeans...my gf was asked to turn around about four (4) times, and the female security was asked to pad her down 3 times. really think that was done because the security guy was being cautions, or simply had nothing better to do? as far as jeans go, yes those little buttons can beep!!! you might want to check and get some justification prior to calling someone dumb.
2. passport being expired - they should have noticed and informed me!!! it is they duty to be diligent, yet they were more diligent in checking the jeans of my gf, and not my passport. if they don't notice the passport being 2 years expired - how do you think they will notice if the picture is fake? or other things?
just because it was a domestic flight it doesn't mean they shouldn't ensure that your traveling papers are in order. what if i was leaving somewhere else? does this imply that if i'm flying domestic they will be less diligent when it comes to ids?
my comments are not to imply there should not be any security....my comments are that they should do it properly. they should be trained better and they should be more diligent in their security check. my comments are that yvr is far from being a proper international airport that is no where near ready for the olympics.

ps: please keep the language appropriate without personal attacks when posting. thanks

So dumb of you to assume that jeans beeps because they have buttons around the side hips... what a typical passenger you are. Though jeans are tight, anything thin could be hidden underneath them and the only thing to ensure that there is nothing there is to do a physical search. Visual search does not make everyone secure. These security people you call puppets are trained to do that because it is mandatory for them to check every little thing that beeps around your body, though you might say that you are not a danger to the airplane, everyone must be treated equally, and what I mean is everyone is suspicious looking. As for you passport being expired, hun you were only travelling to YellowKnife, that is a domestic flight. Only thing that matters is that you have a piece of identification to show. Geesh, you should not making judgements of people that works at the airport... What would you feel if there are no security to check everyone before they get on their flight? Would you feel secure and safe?

the boarder crossing has a different issue...a visa is given for 10 years, thus your passport will expire prior to those 10 years...thus a whole other story...

regardless, the point remains...if 5 check points did not pick up on the expired passport, even if it is domestic, how exactly are they going to pick up on fake id's? the point remains, 5 check points, where the ids are checked to make sure that all traveling documents are in order, yet they missed a simple date. the domestic travel does not excuse them for having a lesser interest in ensuring that all travel documents are in order...last i recall the 911 planes were all traveling domestic! (but we don't need to get into that issue). thus, it's still a pretty serious issue if they failed to catch a simple error...given yvr will have millions traveling through it pretty soon...

an expired piece of ID is not illegal at all, it's just expired. and the best example that it's still useful is that in order to cross the US border you can use your most recent passport with no visa and the expired one with the a valid visa on it.
of course that the canadian air travel regulations say that the ID you use must be valid, all i'm trying to say here is that it's not such a big security issue.
and btw, the "fakeness" of a passport or any other form of id is quite easy to check when you have an UV source of light handy. and again, the fact that you were travelling domestic made them less cautious. as i said before, try to use the expired passport in order to board an international flight ...

regardless - an expired piece of id is still an illegal piece of id. while i understand i made a mistake in taking the wrong passport with me, it's their duty to notify me and request a legal piece of id before allowing me to board the plane. so the question is, if they did not notice the expiration date on the passport, how will they be able to notice a fake id?

there is a (VERY) big difference between an expired piece of id and a fake one. yours, while expired, it's still "real", and as long as the photo on it still matches your face i see no problem. if, on the other hand, you would have travelled outside Canada then i think the story would have been a different one. for the sake of it, next time you go abroad why don't you try to use your expired passport and see if things go the same way
