this is one reason why i went into the field of occupational hygiene. check out the video on the ‘testing for toxic air‘ story from cnn. while exposure to passengers is negligible due to the short time low level exposure, the real concern are pilots and air flight attendants. i have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Ma and also met Dr. Van Netten. amazing individuals, and very knowledgeable in their field.
as far as one of the reasons why i entered the field. well, when you find a problem that can lead to adverse health effects over long-term exposure and then get a chance to prevent it…it’s simply amazing. i hope the exposure this story will bring to the problem will influence the implementation of protective regulations for airline workers.
