little things

the grandiose ‘hollywood’ gestures made to attract the attention of someone, usually your potential lover. the secret admirer scenario that’s been played into your mind from a young age. the impressively expensive gift given as a show of affection. we’ve all done them, we’ve all thought them; yet in the end they’re meaningless. we can all come up with the grand gesture in order to ‘show’ that we care, that we admire, that we desire, that we love.

yet, it’s the little things that have a bigger impact. yes, the little things matter. their importance is mostly underrated; usually ignored or left unappreciated. the little things, the sweet kiss on the forehead of the one you love before one leaves for work or prior to falling asleep. the simple smile just because your loved one happened to look your way. the chocolate candy left on the pillow or the note saying ‘good morning’ left besides the coffee maker. the short call halfway through the day to simply say ‘i miss you’ or the short text message to say ‘hi’.

affection is expressed more deeply through these little things, taken for granted by all at one point or another; because, miracles rest in little things.

morning always comes too soon

for most of you the title probably says nothing, for some it might remind of you of the brad carter song, “morning always comes too soon”; which i highly recommend. however, this is not about the song, but rather about the memorable nights you spend with your loved one, the nights that seem to last forever only to end too soon.

the nights when everything seems to lose importance except for the person in front of you, the person you hold in your arms as if to say ‘you are part of me’, the person you think of before you fall asleep, the person who’s on your mind the minute you wake up. the nights when simply sitting there, staring in each others eyes is reason enough to smile, to feel loved, to feel peace, to feel as if fairy tales are once again possible. yes, fairy tales, the tales of your youth. the passion flowing through your veins through the night compares to nothing ever experienced before. words need not be spoken, as both of you know what the other is saying, what the other one is feeling.

the first such night is one you will never forget. holding on to her to feel her breath, her chest close to yours, her chin resting on your chest. you turn just to get another glimpse of her eyes; eyes in which you find yourself lost and found all in the same time. you see her desire to offer her love to you just as you wish to offer yours. the eyes that will always admire you for you, admire you for the respect and the kindness. for tonight, her eyes endless pools of joy and happiness; for tonight, she is there in your arms logging to be held, cherished and loved. tiredness sets in, yet closing your eyes is impossible because the most beautiful woman, with the most gorgeous smile, the most tender touch, is looking at you, looking into your eyes and opening her heart to you.

the first moments of consciousness settle in, yet your eyes are still closed. you wonder if last night was a dream or is it real, did morning settle in to fast, as if this was a dream you would never want to wake up. as you open your eyes, besides you the most precious being is still in your arms. for the you know, the night was not a dream, it was a fairy tale.
