an improbable result

for those of you who know me it’s too no suprise that after a day like this i post something in regards to football (soccer for all you north americans). and for once it’s not because of steaua (yes i still love the team) but because of cfr cluj. their second game among europe’s elite clubs, a meeting with mighty chelsea (or should i say chelski). a draw, a improbable result considering chelsea’s status in england and europe. a team that came out second best only due to penalties in last season’s in champions league final behind manchester united. chelsea is argubly one of the best in the world. world class players and a world class manager. they came to conquer the heart of transylvania.

i haven’t seen the game, wish i did, but couldn’t. i read about it as much as i could. the score alone speaks wonders, but their players spoke on the field. full of respect for a great team, but no fear; afterall the ball is round. held their own and at the end of the night walked off the field with their heads high to the sounds of joy coming from their avid supporters. my only wish is that they keep playing this way and not back down. hard times have yet to come, now people will take some notice. roma is excused, or so some of the analysts say, they weren’t expecting a team that would dare to compete. combine that with an on again off again from that roma displayed since the begining of the football year and perhaps it’s not such a huge suprise about the shock of matchday 1. chelsea on the other hand were warned by their coach, however one only wonders how loud those warnings were. an unknown, not heard of before dares to stand in front of giants. let’s keep our fingers crossed that 12 o’clock hasn’t rang yet.

transylvania finally has a team to cheer about, a team to stand behind. i visited the cfr stadium back in july, given been only on the outskirts of it. it was getting re-build for the champions league. a stadium on top of a hill, and hopefully a fortress ready to stand the fury of more european giants. a place where one can finally stand and hope.
