i stand corrected…

well, only half-corrected. i admit it, i was expecting france to win the qualifier in romania. however, shockingly a draw was played out. i can’t say i’m disappointed with the result, more or less i’m disappointed with the approach taken by the romanian squad throughout the game. leading 2-0 at one point only to sit back and allow the other team to play. overall, i think the team has a lot of growing up to do. they need to be better, they need to leave their fears in the locker room. they want to be seen as a strong squad, yet every time they’re faced with a tough opponent they somehow manage to lose their cool and destroy everyone’s hope. shame on the squad, shame on its leaders and shame on the coach. the team needs to be tougher mentally and requires more poise when playing with teams like france, italy, etc. yet all we hear is excuses stated to various reporters. excuses lacking substance and looking for pity. then, they’re surprised why the fans no longer cheer at games. how and why are they expecting the fans to buy the overpriced tickets only to witness a team more afraid of itself than its opponent. i guess talking is in many ways a lot easier, but what are we left with after the last few displays of mindless football?

may 11th

well that’s the day the ‘proud’ romanian team under the directions of their ‘great’ coach (not worth mentioning his name) will take on france. should be a game not to be missed. and no, not because i think mutu’s servants will stand a chance, but rather because i’m expecting a lot of goals into ‘the cat’s’ net. after the embarrassing result a few weeks back, the team somehow still finds it worth while to mention they have a chance of beating france. i guess old habits die hard. professionalism is something the national team always lacked. so this coming saturday another nail should be added to the coffin of romania’s chances to visit south africa in 2010. then again, perhaps i’m wrong; given the players have more than enough funds to take their vacation and purchase some tickets to the world cup games in 2010.
