the day is almost passed, and yes if you’re wondering i did not light up yet. but in the meantime everyone has been warned (see right) and yes the door to my office is closed throughout the day.
day one – part II
day one
well it’s november 6th. it’s raining in vancouver and it’s way to early to pretend to care about that. however, as of today i’ve decided to quit. quit smoking that is. first step passed with ‘flying’ colours. the morning coffee, the one thing in the morning when a smoke just simply seems to be complementary to. slowly, looking at the last two cigarettes (yes i didn’t even finish the pack last night) left in my pack, turned around walked into the living room and drank my coffee. it tasted quite different without some carbon monoxide and benzene to keep it company.
with the extra 5 minutes i found myself to have, i ended up watching the morning news. the most interesting news, no not the rain in vancouver, the fact that on november 5th there were a large number of ‘barack obama’ being born. that’s right, the name of the president-elect was the most popular name for new babies yesterday. to add to that, the common hope among the parents was that by using the name perhaps the new borns will inherit some of the traits that made the president-elect successful. practicaly speaking there’s pretty much one method of those traits to be passed down, and althought obama is a democrat, i highly doubt he’ll be caught in such situations.
but back to my mini-war, it’s been a few hours since i’ve awaken. cravings have started and…i guess it’s a good thing vancouver weather decided to make itself at home. less of an incentive to step outside for some ‘fresh air’. i really should go get some gum…
t-3 days
monday morning, three days before the day marked in my calendar as the day i ‘quit’ smoking. hasn’t quite sank in yet, but i’m assuming it should be quite a memorable day. didn’t try to cut down on smoking as the day approaches, quite the contrary i think i might have managed to increase the count per day. no attempts were made to test if i can stay away from lighting it up during the day. quiting smoking sort of has two aspects to it, at least in my opinion. the physical addiction and the social aspect of it. yes, the social aspect. the walk from the and from the bus station, the short breaks during working of assignments or prior to class starting. i’m wondering how those will be handled. well i guess i’ll be posting my daily withdrawal symptoms and the irritation caused to me and everyone else around me. probably the hardest habit to kick is the morning cigarette, yes the one that goes hand in hand with the morning coffee. i doubt i’ll give up on the coffee, thus thursday morning should be an experience worth remembering. thus, t-3 days…
